October 1998 River Ouse, York
An Impressions Gallery Public Art Commission
for the Organic City Project
The city, like the body, is a receptacle for the storing and transmitting of messages,
The Corpuscle Installations build on this utilising local, remote and global information, creating links between the body, the city and the machine. They reflect on the origins of the city not just in geographical or constructional terms, but in the presence of human form and systems of control. The installations rely on natural forces, unwitting interaction and purposeful donation as people are invited to leave digital traces of their presence. In Corpuscle I participants can see the soles of their feet projected onto the river Ouse, flowing downstream, in patterns dictated by electronic monitoring of the river's flow. The images and data are local, the links are linear.
