A Site Gallery Commission for Star Dot Star
Situated in familiar structures and common muses, unwitting donation becomes active revision as images are laundered, by the Tumble process. Four machines are placed back to side, each has an 'eye' onto the world, providing a panoramic view. They capture images of animate subjects - people as objects to be collected - and assign 'meaning' to them by reference to their world view - objects as people with selective vision. As with all obsessive collectors, they periodically present a precise inventory of their latest acquisitions. Over the period of the installation a catalogue grows, illustrating the evolution of each machines' 'perception' and interpretation. On revisiting the gallery people can discover what objects they have been interpreted as and in looking through the catalogue, they are drawn into the process of making their own observations, associations and assignments.
